Hey all, first of all I appreciate you checking in on me regarding the LA fires—I flew out of LA by chance last Tuesday morning but am closely monitoring the alerts as my home is a few neighborhoods away from one of the fires. I also appreciate your well wishes regarding the recent passing of my grandfather. Due to these events, I wasn’t able to do a full write-up for the Cancer Full Moon, but I am able to publish a quick column with some essential points (I’m sure in some ways the brevity will be appreciated!). In the coming days I also plan to do a write-up of my predictions regarding the L.A. fires in a solutions-oriented way that hopefully people benefit from.
Cancer Full Moon: Overarching Themes
This is a tender albeit disruptive full moon. A full moon in its home sign of Cancer will already amplify our emotions, however, in this case it is also closely conjunct Mars Retrograde in Cancer. This juxtaposition can easily disregulate our bodily systems, moods, hormones, etc. And this can spill over into possible discord within our families, with co-habitants or anyone who is familiar to us.
As I’ve said in recent months, Mars in Cancer flips the script by turning people or places that are typically a source of comfort into a source of strain. Unfortunately, in LA this has manifested as disintegrated homes, leaving people without a clear source of comfort. But for everyone, this full moon can highlight frustrations in familiar territories or contexts.
So the first piece of advice is to be mindful in those familiar or comfortable situations, because this is ironically where you can experience the most anger. Let’s say for example you’re staying at your parent’s house today and you decided to cook steak & eggs despite the fact that this is not part of their culinary routine, sparking uncertainty unexpectedly. “Dad, you don’t have tongs for me to sear the steak in its own fat!?” Dad huffs and says I don’t actually need tongs. This seemingly innocent situation could easily boil over. In this moment I remembered the full moon in Cancer today and held back from getting into an unnecessary argument.
As a corollary to this, recognize that you may have to compromise with someone in a tense situation. And also just be aware that everyone is operating on sub-par sleep today more or less, so show them (and yourself) some grace.
If possible, don’t try to tackle more than usual today as it could further this disregulation.
The upside of this full moon is that it gives you an opportunity to demonstrate strength through your vulnerability or your willingness to help someone. Lead with love and compassion, don’t try to strong-arm a situation, and hold space for yourself and those around you to breathe inside of a safe comfort zone. People will ultimately appreciate that tenderness and they will respond in kind, which should help simmer down any of the stress. This is the key to having a successful Cancer Full Moon.
Ideally you’ll get through today and tomorrow with a more closely bonded family, friendship or relationship thanks to both parties being able to open up.
Quick Advice for Each Sign (Refer to sun, moon and rising)
Aries: Don’t lose your cool with any family members, but also be prepared to help someone in this environment (family member, co-habitant, roommate). Avoid over-activity in the household.
Taurus: Avoid over-stimulation, don’t over-schedule yourself today and don’t indulge in pointless arguments. You’ll probably have an insatiable curiosity to absorb reams of information but this could throw you out of balance. Don’t over-caffeinate either.
Gemini: Don’t impulsively spend money or indulge in hedonistic pleasures. Prepare to possibly stand up for your personal values, though. It’s okay to feel competitive about salary, earnings or money today but consider a strategic way to demand more money (don’t project frustration onto the situation).
Cancer: You generally have to keep it real today. Take the general advice I gave above — lead with your vulnerability, lead with compassion and you won’t attract any negative situations. If you try too hard to prove your strength or if you assert your willpower, you will inevitably attract conflict.
Leo: Please maintain sleep hygiene today and tomorrow. Your sleep cycle is all out of wack right now. Don’t be surprised if you have some trippy dreams (they could be spiritually enlightening though). Take ample time to relax (bath, sauna, meditate), you are recharging your batteries right now.
Virgo: Friends might piss you off but you should at most set boundaries with them, and at the very least you should steer clear of any friendships that typically inflame you. Disengage from any arguments on social media as well. It’s a great opportunity though to reflect on and identify the friends and communities that feel like family to you.
Libra: Expect possible friction with any bosses, parents or authority figures. You’ll be tempted to defy their orders, and in some cases this could be warranted and even could be your moment to step up and become your own boss in a way (as an entrepreneur, as an authority who wields power responsibly, etc). However, just know that your irreverence could go too far, so maintain poise with any higher-ups.
Scorpio: For the love of god stop traveling so much. You’ve probably been flying around to a point of exhaustion. Take a moment to consider if you really actually need to be traveling later this month or in February. Perhaps it’s best to take a breather. Or you might be reconsidering your plans to teach a class or maybe you’re reviewing some publishing/media projects or educational commitments. Others will be adopting a different worldview.
Sagittarius: You might be fighting about shared possessions or resources. A Sagittarius I know is currently in the other room fighting about a bill payment with their spouse, for example. Take today and tomorrow to sort through any shared finances and investments and navigate these situations with composure. Other Sagittariuses could be doing some significant shadow work within their families.
Capricorn: 1-on-1 relationships might be a source of friction right now. Expect to possibly have to resolve conflict with a partner, spouse, business parter or best friend. It’s a chance to advocate for your needs in any type of relationship. In other cases you could re-negotiate an important contract. Be on the lookout for “open enemies” who may try to frustrate you. Some of you might have to separate from someone, while others will resolve the conflict finally.
Aquarius: Be cautious with workout routines. Don’t over-extend yourself at the gym or in a fitness context. It’s an opportunity to review your routines, though, and to take a closer look at physical strength. Perhaps there are muscles you’re not currently developing. Also be sure to avoid conflicts with co-workers and take especially good care of your pets.
Pisces: You could be fighting with any creative collaborators or if you have children you might experience some conflict with them. Others might go on a date that leads to surprising arguments. Best thing you can do is leverage your creativity as an outlet for any unexpected frustration that arises.

So as usual, spot on in regards to family- but for me, it is Avery's family. One of Avery's friends wanted to have a print made of his artwork. Avery's family are the rightful heirs. I had just finished drafting an email to them for permission to have the artwork printed, which is housed at professional art printshop.
No one knew his family, they played a small role in his life so when his art comes up for discussion, people reach out to me- I am the undesignated liaison. I am more than happy to take on this role, but at the same time I feel raw, knowing that if he had a will, all of his art would have been left to me. We were each other's support; we often painted side by side and I was the one who encouraged him to share his work with the community (where he won a People's Choice award on his first showing.)
Tomorrow would have been his 58th birthday. In a spiritual context, he was my family.
Stay safe my friend, and my heart goes out to you and your family. Family dynamics are the trickiest, but we learn and grow so much because of our connection.
