Finally, an Answer to “Why Are We Here?”

Most spiritually attuned individuals have lived with lingering questions of “why am I here? Why now? In this bizarre universe?” for their entire lives. I remember having dreams as a child that I was in far-flung galaxies, on planets where the sky was a purple hue, where monolithic structures jutted out of the rocks. I’d zap back into my body in the middle of the night, begging my mom to explain to me what year it was, who I was, and how I could have been catapulted so far across the cosmos in an instant. I made a Herculean effort to re-orient myself so I could be a diligent, attentive student by the time the school bell rang at 8am. Such is the experience many spiritually sensitive people go through in a modern secular world.

When other classmates had no interest in asking about the nature of reality or the universe, I felt awkward and out of place. “Why am I here?” was a common refrain. As I took up astrology much later at the age of 30, I could finally articulate why I’d always felt like a misfit—Sirius was conjunct my Ascendant, Mars was aligned with Aldebaran, Mercury with Antares, and the Moon with Alphecca, all signifying qualities of a Starseed. And through my work as an astrologer, I’ve connected with so many other individuals who have had the same mystifying experiences from day one, giving me a glimmer of hope that perhaps those who are the most sensitive will be the most instrumental in raising the collective frequencies. Lo and behold, this upcoming Cancer New Moon is activating similar Fixed Stars to the ones I mentioned, which could potentially help many people tap into their larger purpose and feel less isolated or alone.

Defining Qualities of the New Moon

The new moon in its home sign of Cancer always conjures themes of self-care, nurturing and emotional support. In this case, there are some critical family-related or relationship wounds to heal thanks to Venus square Chiron, making vulnerability and emotional candor paramount. By bringing our tenderest wounds to the surface, we might find solace in a friend, a partner or a community at this time, bringing us a new feeling of stability and security. This can ultimately bring us nourishment and help us restore our energy and vitality. We need to tend to our emotional bodies and nervous systems at this time and worry less about immediate outcomes.

Add in the Fixed Stars I mentioned, and this is a new moon where we can play a more passive role, be a vessel for the divine and let your intuition fully take the reigns. This is because the new moon is closely aligned with Sirius, the brightest star in the sky and our “Spiritual Sun.” Sirius turns the ordinary into the extraordinary and has been honored and recognized by countless ancient civilizations. Temples have been erected to align with the heliacal rising of Sirius, many of the most notable examples tracing back to ancient Egypt.

This fixed star can awaken us to intergalactic and interdimensional levels of consciousness that elevate us well beyond our individual egos and reveal some of the most profound mysteries of the cosmos. The star can catalyze our awakening journey seemingly overnight. Indeed, many era-defining individuals have Sirius prominently placed in their birth charts.

Meanwhile, Jupiter is also aligning with the fixed star Aldebaran, the Watcher of the East, in the sign of Gemini. Jupiter’s expansive energy applied to Aldebaran can bring us into powerful flow states and enable groundbreaking channeled messages. Moreover, Uranus is also nearing an alignment with Algol, destabilizing longstanding systems and allowing for the influx of new energies.

These unique alignments can truly help you tap into the universal consciousness that pervades our reality. For this reason, I recommend channeling (even if you haven’t done that before) or stream of consciousness writing. This new moon is asking us to suspend our logical mind and to surrender to the natural flow of life, and to pick up on the subtle energies that are always present. You could also dance, run, play music, meditate or engage in any activity that brings you into lower frequency brainwaves like alpha and theta.

While these states are always beneficial in helping us grasp deeper truths, this new moon will give us even more powerful insights. Ideally this enlightening experience can help us heal our relationships (Venus square Chiron), rejuvenate us (New Moon) and make us feel safe, secure and supported (Cancer) in the universe (Sirius, Aldebaran). Feeling at home within this seemingly random universe is really the goal of this new moon. Channel these higher spirits and arrive at a sense of belonging, vanquishing that sense of existential dread.

This spiritual nourishment can broaden your perspective, inspire you, and help you harness the Mars-Uranus conjunction to make a quantum leap forward. Without an intentional reflective practice, one could instead end up in a state of dissatisfaction, which would potentially cause that Mars-Uranus conjunction to bring upheaval.

Intention Setting Process

  • Open a blank page in your journal on the morning of July 5 and start writing down whatever comes to mind. Set aside any sense of self-consciousness or the need for a logical structure. Flow like this for as long as you want. Given the moon’s alignment with Sirius and Jupiter’s alignment with Adlebaran, it’s more likely that your written messages will reveal a profound truth around something you’ve been ruminating on for a long time.

  • After this exercise, refer to the intention-setting templates below to also incorporate specific goals (which can still be useful despite the prevailing energies I addressed in the introduction). Set intentions according to the rubrics I provide for all 3 placements, giving priority to your Rising Sign unless you have the Sun & Moon in the same sign (at that point they have equal weight).

  • Aim to manifest on two time scales — one intention should be capable of materializing by or around July 21 and another by or around January 13, 2025 which brings us to the Cancer Full Moon.

  • Given that the New Moon is in Cancer, focus your intentions on self-care, nourishment, home, property, family and comfort.

  • Phrase your intentions in the present tense (so that it is not a “desire” per se and you are not attached to the outcome) and express notions of gratitude and thankfulness so that you are already in the mentality required to attract the opportunity. Put simply, the opportunity has already arrived, you are just catching up to it along the timeline.

  • Make sure you set these intentions as close to the exact moment of the new moon as possible (3:57pm PT).

  • Reflect on your channeled writing prior to setting these intentions because there could be some pivotal visions or perspectives that could expand the potential of those intentions.
