“Tired but motivated” — this was my response to someone asking me how I was doing in my recent Instagram post about the Pisces New Moon.
Three years ago I was racing down a trail in Griffith Park after a sunrise hike, gleefully preparing to tell my boss at Gartner/L2 that I would be submitting my two weeks notice as a Senior Principal Analyst and pursuing astrology full-time. Buoyed by the optimism that comes with anyone’s first attempt at entrepreneurship and the escape from someone else owning their time, I hurtled forward with new astrology courses, more live shows, etc immediately after quitting. I had infinite energy it seemed, and in the blink of an eye my following ballooned across platforms.
Three years later I’m still living the dream while also witnessing the unforeseen impacts of a grueling content production schedule. I’ve also watched my peers in the content creation space burn out just as quickly as they rose to prominence. Once the initial adrenaline of reaching mass audiences wears off, something else has to motivate you. If not, then the dream can rarely be sustained (barring a massive consumer product, TV series, etc that either generates passive income or royalties).
Anytime an influencer or content creator buckles, it’s because of Saturn’s relentless pressure. Saturn stacks on responsibilities to ensure we really want the thing we’re after. It determines whether a career, relationship, belief etc can stand the test of time. “Tired but motivated” means writing a newsletter on the road with minimal sleep, scripting hours of videos the following morning and filming multiple videos each day or risk falling off the global treadmill of the internet and watching a different astrologer take your place. Or choosing to spend hours a day living & breathing astrology while also watching a serious relationship fall apart.
These are Saturnian sacrifices that have been made along the path to the place I would like to get to — having the funds to one day open an academy for the spiritually gifted. Once I get there, I’ll look back at the lost sleep, cortisol spikes, frayed relationships and say it was all worth it.
But it can go too far. There are pivotal moments where we have to choose to rest or pull back so we can sustain our progress — otherwise Saturn shows us the consequences of our obsessions with a singular goal. Saturn is always there to test us and put up resistance. But this resistance strengthens us. It’s a constant give & take — pushing ahead even when your body warns against it and then pulling back in the nick of time before the issues compound. The only thing that powers this journey is some sort of intrinsic motivation and inner flame. This is our soul, with the North Node as its compass.
This Pisces New Moon is posing these types of questions to all of us. We have to put in the work towards something, but it better damn well be inspiring, otherwise it probably won’t last when work stretches into the middle of the night.
Saturn and the North Node are technically aligning on April 21, however, the Pisces New moon on February 27 at 4:44pm Pacific Time underscores and previews this powerful conjunction. The North Node represents our soul’s evolution and requires us to venture outside our comfort zone. Saturn’s presence signals that significant effort will be involved, but in the sign of Pisces, we are also being asked to have faith that we’ll get to the destination.
The Sun is illuminating the Pisces-ruled House of our chart where this long-term trajectory will be established in our lives. We have the choice starting now to identify (or continue on) the path that justifies those mind-numbing hours of dedication to a dream. The new moon has a perfect mix of aspiration and discipline. But if that means simply taking a breather and recovering before you decide to make the pivot, that’s fine! At the very least, reflect on what you’re willing to build towards consistently over the long haul. What are you expecting to be “tired but motivated” by for years to come?
Defining Traits of this New Moon
All planets direct: Although at least one personal planet (Mercury, Venus or Mars) is retrograde from late November 2024 until mid April 2025, during this brief five day period all the planets are technically direct, inclusive of this new moon. Therefore, whatever you begin can be highly successful and can last long-term, however, you’ll be reflecting on aspects of it during the upcoming Mercury and Venus retrograde.
Saturn trine Mars: Mars was retrograde for 79 days in the sign of Cancer, but recently stationed direct and began to grant us our power back. The trine to Saturn in Pisces is giving us greater resolve to tackle projects effectively. I’d recommend focusing some of your effort on career-related commitments.
Mercury conjunct Saturn: This week’s been packed with serious, business-like conversations and people have taken up a more critical mindset in many cases. In some instances pessimism has dominated. This conjunction could be used to organize your thoughts on the new moon or you could take time to reflect or meditate alone to clear your mind before embarking an a new journey. Others will scrutinize their health more closely. Some may have received important news about their health recently.
Venus on the verge of retrograding: Venus stations retrograde just two days after this new moon, encouraging us to reflect on our approach to relationships, money, career, values and creativity. In combination with the Saturn-Mercury conjunction, some people might decide to take a step back from a key relationship. Others may have recently received important news about their jobs.
Co-Ruler Jupiter square New Moon: Jupiter in Gemini has overloaded us with information over the past 9 months or so and many have become overwhelmed by the endless stream of news and social media posts. The square to the new moon amplifies the tension created by having a million directions to go in. If you’re stressed beyond comprehension, take this time to reset and recharge. Take time to quiet the mind, let it wander without any external distractions and see what your inner world reveals to you.
Co-Ruler Neptune one month away from changing signs: Neptune’s recent alignment with the North Node might have led to positive spiritual breakthroughs, but in my opinion it’s just made everyone tired and lacking in direction. During Neptune’s passage across the final degrees and minutes of Pisces, we’re reflecting on the deleterious effects of idealization or unchecked wishful thinking. This exercise ultimately will help us decipher a more practical way to angle towards our dreams.
Intention Setting Process
Open a blank page in your journal on the morning or afternoon of February 27th.
Set intentions according to the rubrics I provide for all 3 placements, giving priority to your Rising Sign unless you have the Sun & Moon in the same sign (at that point they have equal weight).
Aim to manifest on two time scales — one intention should be capable of materializing by or around March 13 and another by or around September 7 which brings us to the Full Moon in Pisces.
Because both full moons represent lunar eclipses, they will be amplified full moons, making them even more powerful for releasing, albeit karmically pivotal and unpredictable. They represent disruption in the flow of energy — this doesn’t block the potential to manifest on the Pisces New Moon, but just know that whatever you press forward with could have cascading impacts beyond your initial intentions.
Given that the New Moon is in Pisces with Saturn and the North Node steadily aligning, hard work, sacrifice, karma, long-term success, faith, spirituality, healing, achievement and recognition serve as thematic backdrops. Make sure to track the Pisces-ruled House of your Birth Chart to identify the area where you will likely plant new seeds (discussed in the manifestation guide below).
Phrase your intentions in the present tense (so that it is not a “desire” per se and you are not attached to the outcome) and express notions of gratitude and thankfulness so that you are already in the mentality required to attract the opportunity. Put simply, the opportunity has already arrived, you are just catching up to it along the timeline.
Make sure you set these intentions as close to the exact moment of the new moon as possible (4:44pm PT). I’d recommend sticking to that time, however, if you’re looking for an extra boost of confidence, wait an extra 4 hours until approximately 8:44pm PT to set the intentions because by the then the moon will be waxing and squaring Jupiter. While a square is a tense aspect, squares involving Jupiter can be positively dynamic (albeit inflammatory in some cases). The Moon-Jupiter square can inspire over-confidence in some cases, so if you’re already feeling good, set intentions at 4:44pm. If you’re feeling low, wait four hours.
Accommodate and acknowledge the fact that Saturn and the North Node are aligning. This clarifying conjunction hasn’t happened since September 2013 (when I quit a Leadership Development Program at DaVita just three weeks in to escape “The Village” and evade the over-zealous Three Musketeers sword-waving of Kent Thiry. I ended up driving across the country to New York), so you’ll want to factor this conjunction in to your manifestation plan. Details below.
