A spectacular, expansive full moon is upon us. The moon will reach its maximum illumination in this cycle in the sign of Sagittarius on Thursday, May 23 at 6:53am Pacific Time. Back when I was filming my 2024 Horoscopes in the fall of 2023, I pegged the Sagittarius Full Moon as by far the most auspicious, and I’m sticking to that prediction now.
The full moon signifies a time when your intentions from the new moon two weeks prior reach their fullest potential. The moon—which represents the bodily vessel—receives light from the sun—which represents the Logos, the spirit, and our egoic ambitions. The amount of light the moon receives depends on the angular relationship between the sun and moon in the sky.
During a new moon (synonymous with a conjunction between the sun & moon) the moon has vanished and therefore our wishes cannot yet come to fruition. That necessitates the setting of new intentions and the planting of the seed. Once it reaches fullness (synonymous with an opposition between sun & moon) the Moon is symbolically impregnated by the Sun’s light and our desires can truly manifest into our reality. It is the full embodiment of our desired manifestation.
Full Moons represent that climax, culmination, completion and the blossoming of the flower. Therefore, most people view the full moon as a release point. However, it is actually the materialization of the visions you meditated on during the new moon. Only after the full moon (when the moon begins waning) are you supposed to release and discard the things that no longer serve you so you can refine what you manifested.
Alternatively, full moons can also mark new beginnings in my experience, because the peak illumination can simply shine a light on some aspect of your life and compel you to make a major course change. These “a-ha” moments and epiphanies can reveal a promising new pathway.
This full moon in particular can serve as a launch point for you or it can deliver the positive outcome you’ve been planning for.
I’ll first overview the key themes of the full moon and then dive into the horoscopes for each sign, including a guide to prepare for your manifestation moment or your new beginning.
Defining Qualities of this Full Moon
I’m calling this the “And One” full moon. A couple nights ago I had the pleasure of reliving my middle school days watching the NBA playoffs — twenty years ago, my hometown team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, advanced to the Western Conference Finals, backed by a stellar roster including Kevin Garnett. I was enraptured by the nail-biting finishes, and of course it all ended in tears (which is customary when following any Minnesota team).
The franchise experienced a two-decade downturn thereafter, but this season we returned to the same playoff position (exactly twenty years later) and I immersed myself in that world again. My friends and I jumped ecstatically as the team overcame a twenty-point deficit at halftime. There were some critical moments (as in any basketball game) where a player would shoot the ball, score, and also receive an opportunity for a bonus point at the free throw line due to a foul call. This is the “And One” — a best case scenario in which the gains can be extended. Or for the Epicurean among you, a more suitable analogy could be, “I’ll have another bite of cake.”
This Sagittarius Full Moon is boosting our potential for lucky breaks because we have the two Benefics, Jupiter & Venus, meeting up in the sky at 29 degrees of Taurus. The linking up of two planets with positive connotations is incredibly promising, especially considering that Venus rules Taurus. Moreover, Jupiter, a planet that magnifies and amplifies, rules this full moon. The full moon is therefore a chance for you to get even more success than you bargained for, so it’s important to think big and aim high.
And if you’re wondering, “I didn’t set intentions two weeks ago, did I miss out?” No! As I said earlier, this full moon can also awaken you to a new perspective that gestates and eventually translates to a tangible opportunity, or it can reveal the opportunity immediately. I provide guidance for all these scenarios below.
Also keep in mind that this marks a culmination point from half a year earlier during the Sagittarius New Moon which occurred on December 12, 2023. For many, this full moon will bring a journey that began at that time to completion.
At a broad level, the Full Moon in Sagittarius always helps us open our minds to greater possibilities. These larger perspectives are often a byproduct of our long-distance travels, our educational journeys, or simply our increased open-mindedness and willingness to absorb other viewpoints. This wider view of life helps reveal all the possible doorways and options, which is why Sagittarius is seen as a “lucky” sign—the perspective affords this luck. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the gas giant that signifies growth, expansion, optimism, and abundance.
Let’s go ahead and underline the word “abundance” multiple times because Jupiter is not only in the Earth sign of Taurus (which enjoys the richness of the natural world) but is also joining up with Venus, the planet of love, harmony, creativity and money, in its domicile of Taurus.
This means the full moon can deliver a massive win in the form of something valuable (based on whatever you deem to hold value). The conjunction of the Benefics near the fixed star Alcyone, which is part of the Pleiades star cluster, could spell a creative or artistic breakthrough for many of you. This is buttressed by the fact that the Jupiter-Venus conjunction is forming an exact Sextile to Neptune in Pisces, which has creative (and spiritual) implications. The combination of these influences translates to an alchemical blend of spirituality and art.
The positive aspects on this full moon afford you a wider margin for error compared to most full moons. I like to think of the Malefic planets, Saturn & Mars, as creating a narrower margin for error, meaning a single misstep can lead to ruin, whereas the Benefics, Jupiter & Venus, can allow for sheer luck or for happenstance to play in your favor. However, this does not mean you should just wing it—instead, why not capitalize fully on this incredible positive aspect!? That way you can ensure you really hit the mark.
I also really dig the trine to Pluto which can empower people to resiliently step into their transformation journey.
What I don’t like (at all) is the fact that Mars is forming a conjunction to Chiron in Aries. This increases the odds of vicious conflict, especially if one were to channel the shadow side of Sagittarius and act in a self-righteous manner. Bury any notion of haughtiness or arrogance, otherwise you could get entangled in a quarrel. This could be a really messy factor that exacerbates all kinds of tension between people. If the full moon were to go awry for you, this would be why (and to be fair, emotions run hot on full moons, so you should genuinely be careful).
I also continue to expect a lot of overwhelming feelings to pervade the collective due to Saturn and Neptune’s forthcoming retrograde station about one month later. These stations are weighing on us more heavily than usual given that Neptune is at the anaretic 29th degree of Pisces (the final degree of the zodiac). But perhaps the Sagittarius Full Moon will help you find a creative or spiritual outlet that reveals a silver lining and a reason for hope.
Global Themes
The full moon will illuminate Sagittarian themes in the collective, which can include long-distance travel, higher education, religion, law, marketing, advertising and publishing, and the debate about the “Truth”.
Law-related themes are already on display, given the Trump trial and also the ICC’s arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu.
The religious angle of Sagittarius also makes me wonder if religious fervor will flare up.
The Mars-Chiron conjunction could spark intensified conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East.
With Sagittarius ruling flight, I wonder if new revelations about the Boeing scandal will also emerge.
There could also be highly visible legal battles in the entertainment industry
Inflation could again rear its ugly head in the news as being more problematic than anticipated (which could also have implications for crypto)
A slate of highly successful books could be published at this time
Travel expenditures could rise
