A Karmic Reset

This solar eclipse, happening Sunday, September 21st at 12:54pm PT and occurring at the critical degree of 29° Virgo, is an energetic reset. Solar eclipses align with the lunar nodes, linking them to fate and karmic events. This particular eclipse is aligned with the South Node, a point associated with release, reflection, and letting go of what no longer serves us.

While it's true that full moons often signify endings, this new moon eclipse carries a unique duality: it’s a new beginning rooted in reflection and release. Think of it as a powerful reboot that asks you to examine your Virgo-ruled house (in your natal chart) and direct your focus toward cleaning up, improving, and thoughtfully serving others.

Let’s not be selfish during this time: helping someone out in a time of need will help you balance out your karma in a big way! (Even though everyone’s karma is unique, I do believe as a general rule of thumb, acts of service can really benefit you in the long-run especially at this time).

Virgo Themes: Standards, Process and Purification

Virgo is the sign of process, purification, and precision. It governs our daily routines, attention to detail, and pursuit of excellence. This eclipse, at 29° Virgo, amplifies these themes at a critical juncture. The 29th degree, often referred to as an “anaretic” or “fated” degree, represents maturity, reckoning, and culmination. If you've been consciously working with Virgo energy since the August 22nd Virgo new moon at 0°, this eclipse could bring a sense of completion. However, if you've avoided necessary self-work, it might feel like things are unraveling.

Virgo’s energy demands accountability. It’s about showing up, doing the work, and aligning actions with intentions. This isn’t a time to criticize others or get distracted by their flaws—it’s about turning inward and holding yourself to higher standards.

And right now it feels like we’re rudderless (at least in the West), teetering dangerously close to the edge of extremism and upholding contradictory or loose principles. Even though Virgo as a sign in-of-itself does not symbolize values or principles, I do think that Virgoan excellence is best achieved by following a consistent code of conduct. So use this eclipse to establish or reinforce your ideal “code of conduct,” and let it be a beacon for you at a time when the country is roiling.

Self-Improvement Over Criticism

The phrase to live by during this eclipse: “Start with yourself.”
Virgo is a personal sign that centers itself around the concept of self-improvement. While it’s easy to point fingers or criticize the lack of principles in others, this eclipse challenges you to direct that energy inward. Ask yourself:

  • Am I living in alignment with my principles? And are these principles supporting follow-through and consistent behaviors that promote my well-being?

  • How can I refine my routines and habits to reflect these principles and how can I hold myself accountable?

The world may seem chaotic, with contradictory principles and inconsistent leadership. But the only way to bring clarity is to become your own anchor. Set an example through your actions, not your words.

Also let’s remember that by the law of attraction, you can magnetically bring equally respectable people into your orbit. If, by contrast, you spew hate (no matter the justification) then you will likely bring hateful people into your life.

This eclipse will be extremely revealing in that it will separate those with solid principles from those who are letting their emotions push them along a rollercoaster. This eclipse will thereby add more coherence or more chaos to someone’s life depending on how they structure their daily life and habits.

Astrological Alignments to Note

  1. Eclipse Opposing Neptune in Pisces:
This aspect asks you to uphold a sense of faith and connection to something greater than yourself. Whether it’s spiritual, philosophical, or humanitarian, let your faith guide your principles and actions.

  2. Venus Square Uranus:
Expect surprises in relationships or values. Misaligned partnerships may dissolve, while new, unexpected connections could form. This is a chance to reassess what (and whom) you truly value.

  3. Mars at 29° Libra (just before moving into Scorpio):
This placement activates advocacy for justice and fairness, but it can also bring tension and recklessness if not handled consciously. Stay grounded and maintain balance to avoid reactive behavior. While Mars in Libra can galvanize people to stand up for what they believe is just & fair, these urges can become too intense with the impending square to Pluto.

  4. Pluto in Aquarius Squaring Mars in Scorpio:
Mars enters Scorpio hours after this eclipse, squaring Pluto in Aquarius for the first time since 1798. This historic alignment could stir up control issues and highlights the precarious balancing act between advocating for reform without resorting to power-hungry tactics. Resist the urge to act from a place of fear or vengeance. This makes the eclipse on September 21st even more crucial to harness wisely: self-mastery can help you sidestep the destructive energies of this volatile Mars-Pluto square.

Practical Steps for the Eclipse

  1. Internal Inventory:
Reflect on where you’ve been holding yourself accountable (or not). What routines or habits need refining?

  2. Define Your Principles:
Write out your core values. What do you stand for? How can you live these values daily?

  3. Avoid Extremes:
The world is polarized, but you don’t have to be. Stay balanced and avoid falling into groupthink or reactive behavior.

  4. Focus on Self-Improvement:
Channel Virgo’s energy into productive, tangible actions. Declutter your space, refine your health routines, or improve your skillset.

  5. Let Go with Grace:
Release relationships, habits, or mindsets that no longer align with your values. Release situations that contradict or lower your standards.

  6. Aim for Efficiency & Minimalism:

Identify any areas of messiness in your life, declutter that mess and simplify your approach. Less is generally more at this time and can help you be more efficient.

  1. Keep the Temple Clean

Virgo reminds us to assemble routines that promote our physical well-being, making this eclipse ideal for starting a new fitness regimen or assessing your nutritional intake.

Overall Themes

Ultimately, this is eclipse is about: discernment, upholding consistent, high standards, operating from a core set of principles, and having a process. Eighty percent of our daily life involves repetitive habits — this eclipse is showing you that maybe it’s time you reset your process so that your daily tasks don’t overwhelm you!
